2025 Zone Cross Country

Yesterday on a wet and muddy day at the Kembla Joggers Course in West Dapto our School Cross Country team took part in the Northern Illawarra Zone Cross Country Carnival.

Despite some early sunshine before the races, the clouds quickly closed in and consistent rain all day saw the track turned into a very challenging muddy obstacle course. Despite the elements our students did remarkably well with 25 runners coming in the top five in their events and four age champions.

The following students were age champions for their age group:

12 Girls – Amelie Pace

13 Girls – Grace Thornton

13 Boys – Koen Giles

15 Girls - Kyra Johnson

Along with these outstanding results we also had Alex Smyth, Georgie Peoples and Chase Rowlan coming 2nd in their age groups and Corrah Campbell, Nala Ashbolt, Sia Ryan and Bailey Hughes coming 3rd in their age groups.

Congratulation to all runners who showed amazing resilience and determination in what was a very memorable carnival. We will be sending 31 athletes to the South Coast carnival which will be held in Nowra on 13 June 2024 this term. Great work WHSPA.

Wollongong High School of the Performing Arts acknowledge the Wadi Wadi people of the Dharawal Nation, who are the Traditional Owners of the land on which we meet. We acknowledge the Elders, past, present and future, of this land as well as Elders of the wider Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. These Elders hold the traditions, the dreams, the hopes and the culture that has been kept alive for thousands of years. Our school lies between the sacred site of Mt Geera and the five islands which are significant figures in Dharawal dreaming stories. These stories pass on the traditions, practices and customs that have sustained the oldest living culture in the world to this day. In between the mountains and the sea we meet together in harmony and stand firm in the reminder that this land is, was, and always will be traditional Aboriginal land.
