Wellbeing
At Wollongong High School of the Performing Arts, our Wellbeing Faculty is committed to supporting every student to connect, succeed and thrive in line with the NSW Department of Education’s Wellbeing Framework for Schools.
Our approach is guided by the care continuum, ensuring that every student receives the right level of support at the right time. Through this tiered model of care, we provide universal wellbeing programs for all students, targeted interventions for those requiring additional support, and intensive case management for students with complex needs.
We offer access to school counselling services, student support officers, and a welcoming Wellbeing Hub, a safe and inclusive space where students can seek support, build confidence, and re-engage meaningfully with their learning.
Our faculty delivers a range of whole-school initiatives and targeted wellbeing programs that build resilience, enhance emotional literacy, and strengthen mental fitness. These initiatives encourage positive choices, respectful relationships, and a strong sense of belonging, empowering students to become the best versions of themselves.
As a NSW public school, we work in partnership with families, community agencies, and the Department’s support networks to ensure each student’s wellbeing needs are met. We collaborate closely with the Learning and Support Team to identify individual needs and implement tailored strategies, ensuring that every student can access, participate, and achieve in their education.
How we support student wellbeing
Supporting each student’s mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing is part of everyday school life.
We do this through:
- teachers who help students feel welcome and included
- access to school counsellors, school psychologists and specialist staff
- programs that support health, social skills, attendance and positive behaviour
- help for students who are new or changing year levels
- clear expectations for behaviour and respectful relationships
- staff who get to know each child and work closely with families
- developing health care plans for students
- open communication about wellbeing and support.
