PDHPE mandatory course (300 hours)
Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPEIt provides opportunities for students to learn about, and practice ways of, adopting and maintaining a healthy, productive and active life. It involves students learning through movement experiences that are both challenging and enjoyable, and improving their capacity to move with skill and confidence in a variety of contexts. It promotes the value of physical activity in their lives. This includes activities such as games, athletics, aquatics, gymnastics, dance and lifelong physical activity options. It provides the opportunity for young people to explore issues that are likely to impact on the health and wellbeing of themselves and others, now and in the future.
This includes physical activity, mental health, drug use, sexual health, nutrition, supportive relationships, personal safety, gender roles and discrimination.
Physical Activity and Sports Studies (PASS) elective course (100 / 200 hours)
This is a content endorsed course. Students can elect to study PASS in years 8, 9 and 10. Physical Activity and Sports Studies represents a broad view of physical activity and the many possible contexts in which individuals can build activity into their lifestyle. It incorporates a wide range of lifelong physical activities, including recreational, leisure and adventure pursuits, competitive and non-competitive games, individual and group physical fitness activities, and the use of physical activity for therapy and remediation. This syllabus promotes the concept of learning through movement.
2 unit PDHPE
The syllabus has been designed for all students in Years 11 and 12 who have an interest in this area. While there are no formal prerequisites for this course, it is assumed that students have undertaken a minimum 300 hour course based on the PDHPE Years 7–10 Syllabus . The Stage 6 PDHPE syllabus builds upon this experience by introducing students to more detailed study and higher order skills. It includes areas of learning such as; a social view of health, nutrition, physical activity, relationships, drug use, first aid, outdoor education, physical activity options, composition and performance, Health Priorities in Australia, Factors Affecting Performance, The Health of Young People, Sport and Physical Activity in Australian Society, Sports Medicine, Improving Performance and Equity and Health.
2 unit Community and Family Studies (CAFS)
Community and Family Studies is an interdisciplinary course drawing upon selected components of family studies, sociology, developmental psychology and students' general life experiences. It includes topics such as; Resource Management, Individuals and Groups, Families and Communities, Research Methodology, Groups in Context, Parenting and Caring, Family and Societal Interactions, Social Impact of Technology and Individuals and Work
