2024 Duke of Edinburgh Blue Mountains Walk

In Term 3, our wonderful Duke of Edinburgh group went to the Blue Mountains. Despite the early rain, it was an absolutely beautiful walk along Pope's Glen Creek Trail before have lunch in the mist at the top of Perry's Lookdown. After a very steep descent into the Grose Valley, we set up camp at Acacia Flats with some students even brave enough to go for a swim in the creek! Highlights included exploring the creek bed on the way out of camp, playing a modified celebrity heads together before bed and seeing how well everyone endured the bazillion stairs on the way out. After lucking out on the weather while camping, we were even treated to a lightning storm show on the train home.

Wollongong High School of the Performing Arts acknowledge the Wadi Wadi people of the Dharawal Nation, who are the Traditional Owners of the land on which we meet. These Elders hold the traditions, the dreams, the hopes and the culture that has been kept alive for thousands of years. Our school lies between the sacred site of Mt Geera and the five islands which are significant figures in Dharawal dreaming stories. These stories pass on the traditions, practices and customs that have sustained the oldest living culture in the world to this day. In between the mountains and the sea we meet together in harmony and stand firm in the reminder that this land is, was, and always will be traditional Aboriginal land.
