Students from Wollongong High School did a fantastic job of being buddies for the week for the students from China, taking them to classes, explaining different parts of Australian schools and introducing them to friends as well as taking them out to the playground to play on the basketball courts or 9 square. Our students were wonderful reps, showing friendliness and generosity, commendable qualities. WHSPA is proud of the job they did in being ambassadors and thank them for their efforts.
As part of their immersion experience, the students went on a trip to the harbour at Wollongong. It was a beautiful sunny day, with sparkling water and the Chinese students loved getting to experience the classic Wollongong waterline, complete with a Yachtie's doughnut. The teacher, Miss Lin commented on how clear and beautiful the water was, pointing out that whilst they lived in a coastal town in China, the water was not of the same condition and not really for dipping toes and shell collection.
On the final day of their visit our Principal, Mrs Wood, hosted an Aussie Food Taste Test for the students with the help of Ms Comino and our Year 11 Hospitality Class. The students had the opportunity to taste a variety of Aussie delicacies such as Milo, Fairy Bread, Tinned Spaghetti, Milo, mini Pavs, Musk Sticks and the old time favourite Vegemite and butter on white bread!! The students then had to vote whether they liked or disliked the food. Let us just say there were some interesting results. We then presented the students with a gift bag and Certificate to thank them for visiting WHSPA prior to waving them good bye.
A big thank you to our WHSPA Buddies: Max (7), Bella (7), Alex (7), Sri (7), Gigi (7), Elenna (7), Candee (, Ella (, Miriam (9), Sarah (10), Kaiya (9), Raf (, Noah (9) and Stormi (7).
